Cut the cord – part two

Welcome back Flipsiders! Good to see you!!! I’m assuming that you’ve made your list of programs and the channels they’re on. If you haven’t done that stop reading, go put it together and then come back here.

Back? Good! The first thing I want you to do is to check out your list and see what programs that you watch are over the air. Mark them down. Put a little check next to them on that paper. We’ll start with those. Remember those sites that I told you about that show where the networks are broadcasting from? Also take notes next to them in regards to where to place your antenna in your house.

The next thing we’re going to do is try some antennas! I’m also going to give you a resource that you can use so that you don’t have to try 49 antenna’s. First a little rule. Those antenna that look like this…

Unless you’re very close to the transmitters, these aren’t the best. You can use them if you are but you may not pick up all of the channels you want. Now I’ve found that the best ones to get refurbished are a company named Mohu. You can find them on Amazon or you can order them on the company website (gomohu.com). They have different models but personally the Mohu Leaf™ has worked for me!

Now, hold your horses!!! I have a bit of info to drop on you before you buy. https://antennamanpa.com/index.html. this guy has a website and a bunch of videos. All he does is antennas and reception. In fact, he has a service where you tell him where you are and what stations you need and he’ll test thing for you and recommend an appropriate antenna for your particular needs. This is a link to that service: https://antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html. While your at it, do what I did and subscribe to his YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@AntennaMan)! Lots of great tip and tricks there. I love it and so will you. I find him hilarious and informative. After you deal with him you can count on his choice of antenna.

Anyway, once you get and hook up the antenna you’ll have those over the air show… for free! For life! But Larry, what if I have several tv’s throughout my house? One antenna ain’t gonna cut it! Hey, I’ve got you covered! What you need is a DVR. Not only will you be able to record show, the DVR will actually beam your antenna’s signals to all your TV’s. Recorded programs too!

Now, there are a few on the market. I have the one that Amazon USED to make. It works great with Amazon’s FireTV stick, and I would recommend it but like I said they don’t make them any more. So, the next best thing is the Tablo™. It does what I described and it’s expandable. So, you can hook up an external hard drive just like you have on your computer. You can schedule shows to record just like that cable DVR that you’re paying for every month! You’ll get all your local sports and news with this and the antenna that hooks directly into this thing.

Now you can buy it on Amazon (link) or you can check them out on their company site(https://www.tablotv.com/). And because we’re your friends, we’ve included a video about this thing… https://youtu.be/QbSwPt3cq98?si=7wQBlZDDxPPwbUT9. Here’s one on set up & tips… https://youtu.be/P1WGXk7HmPw?si=WvHSqRuwgpBoY2lm. Pretty cool eh? Now the thing is, on each tv if it isn’t a smart tv, you’ll need a streaming device like FireTv, AppleTV or a Roku so you can get the apps you want like Netflix, Paramount plus, or Disney plus. The Tablo streams right to these devices! We’ll go over these & more in our next article! Later Flipsiders!!!
