$Free.99…

Well, I’ve said this before and I guess I’m bragging a bit but I’m doing this because what I did you can do too!!! I haven’t had cable for about 7 years. So, they got to the point where these jokers were charging me almost $300.00 a month! Well, it wasn’t quite $300.00 a month but it was creeping up to that & I could see it going up to that in a few months. Basically, that year I would be paying that. I’ve told that whole horrific story in a previous post. It also details what I did about it & kept watching my favorite shows.

 

Basically, my situation would deal with a specific set of equipment that I acquired but I suggest you go back & read that post. Now, I don’t have to tell you that we know live in the age of streaming! There’s absolutely no need for cable & it’s ridiculously high prices. However, this doesn’t mean that it has to be expensive. There are a number of services that have hit the scene that are what we call “Ad supported tv services”.

Basically, these services are like watching cable! The only difference is that they show LESS commercials on their ad breaks. Now for you watching these commercials they give you the device for absolutely FREE!

 

Now admittedly, in the beginning, these services were independently owned. These small companies (as brilliant as they were) couldn’t afford to purchase popular TV shows & popular movies so quite honestly they weren’t very good. They usually had these off brand movies & shows that you wouldn’t think of watching. The good news is that overtime (years) these services were bought by these huge entertainment companies & movie studios. 

 

Eventually, they got it through their thick skulls that people would pay them to add their commercials to their absolutely back catalogue of shows & movies (that were sitting there, making no money at all). So, basically these movie & tv studios dumped all this stuff on these ad supported services. Some even went so far as to start their own apps & services!

Apps like Tubi, Freevee, & Pluto Tv, have your favorite TV show & movies for you to watch for free! The best part about it for me is that these services integrate with pretty much all smart tv’s and streaming players like the Fire tv stick, Apple TV & more.

This is actually the start of a new series on this blog. I plan to explore these services. Our first subject will be Tubi! I’ll also be exploring the different streaming players & smart tv that will allow you to explore these services & the best way to use them.
