Art Tools

Hello! Are there any fellow artists out there? Either working on your craft or working professionally? Well, the one thing we all have in common is the search for that perfect tool. For some of us, that ‘perfect tool’ is not just 1 tool, but the one that is steady and reliable each time you get ready to make your mark(s). These are the ones I’ve used over the last 20 years (crap, 20??) and have proven very much worth-while in my exploration of art. I must say though, these are not the end-all-be-all of tools. Find your way.  Art is very much an exploration of the kinds of marks you want to […]

Featured Artist – Boichi

For this feature I’m turning my eyes towards manga. I really hope everyone knows what manga is, but just to be safe, manga, literally, means comics in Japanese. Right now one of my favorites manga artist/writers is Boichi. Mu-jik Park (박무직; born January 29, 1973), known professionally as Boichi, is a South Korean manga artist living in Japan. I first came across his work, probably online somewhere but I know it was this image; What struck was the boldness of the composition as well as the speed in the lines and detail, above all. All of his work has this level of detail and it’s quite striking. The other striking thing is that his work is

Cut the cord – part two

Welcome back Flipsiders! Good to see you!!! I’m assuming that you’ve made your list of programs and the channels they’re on. If you haven’t done that stop reading, go put it together and then come back here. Back? Good! The first thing I want you to do is to check out your list and see what programs that you watch are over the air. Mark them down. Put a little check next to them on that paper. We’ll start with those. Remember those sites that I told you about that show where the networks are broadcasting from? Also take notes next to them in regards to where to place your

How to cut the cord #1…

Alrighty! To make long story short, We want you to watch what we watch and pretty much save you some money. So, we decided to create a series that helps you do just that! Sounds fun, eh? Well, I’m pretty much a tech-head, so I’m going to walk you all through this thing because paying a million dollars a month sucks. I’ve tried to get my mother to do it but she thinks cord cutting requires a sharp object. I guess the first thing is… DO NOT JUST TELL YOUR CABLE COMPANY TO SUCK IT!!! You still neeed them or someone like them to get internet for the house. I

This is a special one for me, because I place Juan Gimenez as 1 of my Top 5 Favorite Artists of All Time. Juan Antonio Giménez Lópezwas born in Mendoza, Argentina. He attended the National University of Cuyo’s School of Arts and Design followed by the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona. His early professional career was spent in advertising, with writing and drawing comics as a side activity, he eventually moved into comics as a full-time profession by his thirties.  He started getting his own stories published when he was sixteen years old in Argentina magazines Frontera, Misterix and Hora Cero.  He published his first French release Leo Roa (The Starr

注目のアーティスト - ビル・シエンキウィッツ

By the way, that’s pronounced ‘sinKEVitch’. Just so you know. Bill is an American artist known for his work in comic books—particularly for Marvel Comics’ New Mutants, Moon Knight, and Elektra: Assassin. He is the co-creator of the character David Haller / Legion, the basis for the FX television series Legion. Sienkiewicz’s work in the 1980s was considered revolutionary in mainstream US comics due to his highly stylized art that verged on abstraction and made use of oil painting, photorealism, collage, mimeograph, and other forms generally uncommon in comic books. ‘Revolutionary’ doesn’t really describe how we felt about Bill when he burst onto the scene. ‘Mind-blowing’ was more like it. ‘Astounding!’  What the heck were we looking at? It was amazing and had never-before been seen in

Rebel Moon: a Review

Wow. Where do I start? First of all I love sci-fi and I love comic books. I love the genre. It would not be a stretch to say I’m obsessed with it. I mean I made it my life’s work. Literally. Read my bio. When I found out that this was a Star Wars story that just didn’t get made, I was in. Now I see why. Disney took one look at the script and tried to find some interesting characters and some kind of story. If there’s one thing these guys know is story!  although, currently, they seem to have thrown out their winning formula for some weird

FEATURED ARTIST – Ross Andru

ROSS ANDRU Part 1  My favorite comicbook artist of all time is John Romita Sr. Has been since the day I first saw his work. I must have been 4 or 5 at the time. I lived with my grandparents, you see, and their youngest son, my uncle, had stacks of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and MARVEL TALES comics around the house.             So telling you how much I admire John Romita’s work … is kind of a strange way to start discussing my love for the work of Ross Andru, eh? But here we are. First off, don’t worry. Future me is already working on an essay detailing my love of Jazzy
