REALITY

Reality Used to be Friend of Mine      Anyone remember P.M.Dawn? Anyone? Ok. Seemed like a nice title for this posting. Can you tell we love music here? 😉 Ok, the main subject I’m here to talk about IS reality. The reality of working in mainstream comics.  Trust me, I’ve been doing it professionally since 2003, and it is not all sunshine and rainbows. Those are temporary and short-lived. What CAN happen, I’ve seen it, is that a creator comes along and does really, really well. Someone like Scott Snyder, Tom King, Mitch Gerads, or Jorge Jimenez. They come along and they are part of a very successful run of comics.  […]

Let’s talk about Dave Gibbons. You may have heard of him. Mr. Gibbons was born in 1949 in London, England. He first entered the comics field in 1976 working on underground and smaller press comics. But looming around the corner was 2000AD launching in 1977, that, from the very beginning he was a key contributor to. Prog 01 (February 1977), and went on to draw the first 24 instalments of Harlem Heroes, one of the founding (and pre-Judge Dredd) strips. Midway through the comic’s first year he began illustrating Dan Dare, a cherished project for Gibbons who had been a fan of the original series and artist Frank Hampson who, alongside Frank Bellamy, Don Lawrence and Ron Turner are well-liked and

FEATURED ARTIST – MIKE MCMAHON

Michael (Mick) McMahon was born in1954 and is a British comics artist best known for his work on 2000 AD characters such as Judge Dredd, Sláine and ABC Warriors, and the mini-series The Last American. Judge Dredd was created for IPC’s new science fiction comic 2000 AD in 1977 by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, but problems in pre-publication led to both creators walking out, and the first published story was written by Peter Harris and Pat Mills, and drawn by an inexperienced young artist called Mike McMahon. Mills, who was editor at the time, chose McMahon because he could do a passable imitation of Ezquerra’s style, but the more he drew the more his own style emerged. When Wagner returned to his creation, McMahon became the character’s most regular

$Free.99…

Well, I’ve said this before and I guess I’m bragging a bit but I’m doing this because what I did you can do too!!! I haven’t had cable for about 7 years. So, they got to the point where these jokers were charging me almost $300.00 a month! Well, it wasn’t quite $300.00 a month but it was creeping up to that & I could see it going up to that in a few months. Basically, that year I would be paying that. I’ve told that whole horrific story in a previous post. It also details what I did about it & kept watching my favorite shows.   Basically, my situation

Rebel Moon: A Review

Rebel Moon: A Review

Wow. Where do I start? First of all I love sci-fi and I love comic books. I love the genre. It would not be a stretch to say I’m obsessed with it. I mean I made it my life’s work. Literally. Read my bio. When I found out that this was a Star Wars story that just didn’t get made, I was in. Now I see why. Disney took one look at the script and tried to find some interesting characters and some kind of story. If there’s one thing these guys know is story!  although, currently, they seem to have thrown out their winning formula for some weird

The Penguin – non spoiler review

So, I remember watching the Batman. It was incredible… and the one thing that stuck in my head was the Penguin. First of all, Colin Farrell, the incredible makeup job that he had plus his superb acting really flipped me out. I couldn’t tell that it was him! His performance was really that good. Same thing with this series.    Now, when I first checked it out, I have to admit, I was expecting a top hat and some trick umbrella nonsense. Some real Batman stuff. But what I received was some real gangster stuff. And I mean some real gangsta, gangster stuff.    This is some real down and

METOONS

Well, I have not had cable in years. Truth be told there were one or two channels that I watched on the regular so it was like paying for nothing. On top of that I had been with this company for over 25 years. To repay my loyalty they raised my monthly bill to just shy of $300 bucks. A friend of mine suggested that I call them up and explain to them exactly how long I had been with them and try to work out a deal to lower my bill. So, I called them up and laid everything out to them. “I’m sorry sir, there’s nothing I can

A few year ago, I wanted to create a site of my work that loaded quickly and that I could send around to children’s book companies. One day while I was cruising the Adobe site, I came across an article on Adobe Portfolio I looked at a few sample sites that they had posted to show this service and was impressed with its simplicity and fast loading times. After exploring Adobe Portfolio a bit more I decided

TV Show Review – Blue Eye Samurai

Brutal. Bloody as hell. And absolutely beautiful. Blue Eye Samurai is a French-American adult animated action streaming television series created and written by husband and wife team Michael Green and Amber Noizumi, and co-produced and animated by Blue Spirit. Its premise is pretty simple; During Japan’s Edo period (17th century), a half-white half-Japanese swordsmaster Mizu quests for vengeance against four white men who illegally remain in Japan during the closing of its borders by the Tokugawa shogunate. But its execution (pun intended) is not. Mizu cut a swath of blood throughout Japan in they’re quest for vengeance.
