TV Show Review – Blue Eye Samurai

Brutal. Bloody as hell. And absolutely beautiful. Blue Eye Samurai is a French-American adult animated action streaming television series created and written by husband and wife team Michael Green and Amber Noizumi, and co-produced and animated by Blue Spirit. Its premise is pretty simple; During Japan’s Edo period (17th century), a half-white half-Japanese swordsmaster Mizu quests for vengeance against four white men who illegally remain in Japan during the closing of its borders by the Tokugawa shogunate. But its execution (pun intended) is not. Mizu cut a swath of blood throughout Japan in they’re quest for vengeance. There are a myriad of back stories, mysteries, and twists that plague and enlighten us as the viewers as the tale is told with breathtakingly rendered 3D animation. It looks as […]

The MCU Before the MCU…

The MCU Before the MCU…

This post starts a new series on the site that focuses on the MCU from the 1970s. I don’t know how many parts it will be but it’ll be a few. Marvel actually started putting out stuff in the 60’s (which believe it or not I was to young for and started watching the reruns in the 70’s). However, they really started cooking in the 70’s & 80’s and thats what I’m going to discuss here because well, dagnabbit I actually remember it! I’m also doing a series of articles on Dc Comics media in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s because there was a lot of it but more

A Flipside Inspiration Milton Caniff, often referred to as “the Rembrandt of comic strips,” was an American “adventure” cartoonist famous for his long-running comic strips, Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon. Unable to pursue his desire to join the military due to a medical condition, Caniff also used his artistic talents to contribute to the morale of U.S. troops during World War II with the creation of Male Call, an adventure comic strip featuring soldiers, which was available exclusively to members of the armed forces. Born in Hillsboro, Ohio, Caniff began drawing in kindergarten. While a student at Stivers High School, he created cartoons for local newspapers. It was also at Stivers where he

The European Market

The European Market

The European Comic Book Market So over on X (or Twitter or whatever you call it) Paul Azaceta asked a loaded question. That’s a good one. There are lots of working comics professionals over here in the America’s who would probably like to know this. So I asked Mathieu Lauffray, world-renowned illustrator and author. If you don’t know who he is, just google him.  😉 Please excuse the abruptness of it, this was done in a chat and I had to go back and forth with Google Translate to have the conversation in French. I asked; ‘Hello, sir.  I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I have some questions

Book Addict – Long John Silver

I used to have my own Patreon, and on there I would run a short column I called Book Addict. Because, let’s face it, I have a lot of books in my house. They come and go as they get cycled out quite a bit, but I really love quality books. So, the first one I’ll do here is a new-ish one to the collection and it’s beautiful. What we’re here to talk about is the newest collection from Niffle Collections,  Long John Silver. Niffle Collections collect only the finest of the Black and White comics that come out over in Europe. The other one I have is the Undertaker by

Featured Artist – Boichi

For this feature I’m turning my eyes towards manga. I really hope everyone knows what manga is, but just to be safe, manga, literally, means comics in Japanese. Right now one of my favorites manga artist/writers is Boichi. Mu-jik Park (박무직; born January 29, 1973), known professionally as Boichi, is a South Korean manga artist living in Japan. I first came across his work, probably online somewhere but I know it was this image; What struck was the boldness of the composition as well as the speed in the lines and detail, above all. All of his work has this level of detail and it’s quite striking. The other striking thing is that his work is

Denys Cowan was born January 30, 1961 and is a comic book artist, television producer, media executive and one of the co-founders of Milestone Media. Denys Cowan was first inspired by superheroes as a child from reruns of the 1950s TV show Adventures of Superman with George Reeves. He did not yet even know what a comic book was and would not learn about them until the third grade. After Cowan’s mother died, he moved in with his grandparents, and attended school in that district, where he met a future fellow comics creator, Derek Dingle, who drew comics with his brother. Dingle showed Cowan his first comic book, an issue of Jack Kirby’s New Gods. Cowan attended the High School of
