I am an AVID Plex user. I mean, it’s kind of insane but I use this app for everything I watch, and I mean everything. All day long. I pay $50 a year for the full Plex pass because I want all the features they offer and they offer plenty. Free TV channels (past and present), free select movies, you can listen to Tidal if you want, they even have a section for audiobooks to listen to, but my main source of fun is my own digital library. I am one of those that gave up on physical media years ago in favor of watching everything via a digital streaming service library I keep in my home. It used to be tied to iTunes where we were able to watch things via the Apple TV but that changed.
And along came Plex. It was a revelation to me and they’ve only gotten bigger and better as the years have gone on.
To be totally honest with you all, I think plex is the future of streaming. It’s got everything you could possibly want to watch in 1 single app. Were I an independent filmmaker or TV showrunner, you better believe I’d be taking a very serious look at Plex and what they can offer. There is nothing to stop someone from creating a movie or TV show and having Plex host it. Premium members can watch it for free while the people with free accounts (did I forget that part?) pay a price to watch it. Directly. Plex is the only middle-man between the creators of show and their audience.
I did forget that part. Initially, it’s free to sign up for an account at Plex. And that FREE account gets you access to everything they offer. All the movies and TV you want to watch.
Not only that, you can watch stuff on every device there is out today. iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, desktop computer, laptop, Roku, Samsung or any other smartphone out there, smart TV’s…everywhere.
And what makes that cool is if you start watching something at home, you can pause it and continue it on a different device if you want to go somewhere. I love that.
